Blomeley worked with Bell Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee, and Apple to present a worldwide first. IPTV behind the scenes coverage of the Beijing Olympics distributed to multiple screens and devices worldwide …and controlled remotely from Canada.
Blomeley was the developer, project manager, and production house. The first step was to successfully negotiate with local Chinese Telecom and onsite NBC Universal to install state of the art fiber to Canada House which acted as the production studio and front end. Specialized VODPorts and mobile device interfaces were created, and even a special voice-over-ip “batphone” was implemented to allow direct and immediate 24/7 communications between Beijing and Ottawa (a 12 hour timezone difference). All video, audio and graphic content was imported to Apple servers and then controlled by the Blomeley production facility in Ottawa.
The Blomeley/Bell/COC onsite Beijing production team was led by John McLarty from Bell, and world freestyle skiing champion Steve Omischl. A range of content was produced daily: 16 Days in Beijing documentary series, daily athlete and VIP interviews, good luck greetings from Canada cell phone videos, and Canada House coverage etc. All final productions were streamed 24/7 to screens and devices worldwide including Bell Canada and COC boardrooms.
The world first was promoted on the international front page of www.apple.com.
