April 18, 2012 – Toronto The news of the sudden passing of Toronto Star Olympic Reporter Randy Starkman was a shocker to all who knew him or worked with him. My personal connection was a simple and pleasant meeting at a pre-olympic news junket as we both prepared for our next Olympics games coverage, I was working for CTV on contract and Randy for the Toronto Star. And from there on in he would always offer a friendly nod if we passed each other at future opportunities.
Yesterday I was pleased to be contacted by a friend, Olympian Steve Omischl, and Randy Risling the multimedia guru from the Star. Randy R was looking for some tribute footage and contacted Steve O, a former world champion freestyle skier and budding film producer/director. Back at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Steve O had produced some wonderful behind the scenes mini-documentaries for Blomeley Communications and Bell Canada via the Canadian Olympic Committee Canada House called “16 Days in Beijing” which we streamed worldwide to many Bell business units, screens, and mobile devices during the games. Day 6 featured Randy Starkman at work at the MPC.
Here below is a link to the video on our YouTube Channel. As Randy Risling said “…It’s a perfect piece of footage and is soooo Randy!.”
Here is a link to that video featuring Randy Starkman.
